New event will celebrate Burleson and give back

The public is invited to the first-ever Burleson Block Party on Friday, October 12.  The Burleson Economic Development Corporation plans to celebrate our strong community by highlighting everything the city has to offer through a full day of programming on JoCo Community Radio.  Programming will include a visit with Mayor Ken Shetter and other council members, school officials, large and small business owners, plus many other great guests.

“Our goal is to make this a time for us to celebrate all the great things our community has to offer,” said Alex Philips, Burleson economic development manager. “While also giving back to a very worthy cause.”

To cap off the day everyone is invited to a free concert at 6 p.m. located at the corner of Ellison and Wilson Streets in Old Town Burleson. The entertainment will feature local artists such as Brittany Oviedo, Jesse Jennings and Andrew Dolan.

Also, the event has partnered with the Burleson Drowning Prevention Coalition to assist in raising funds to provide children in the community free swim lessons. The public can call in anytime on Friday, October 12 to donate.  For each $25 received, a student will receive four lessons of life saving instruction from Sigma Swim.

“The Burleson Drowning Prevention Coalition is a great example of ways our community is constantly looking for ways to increase safety and give back to our residents,” said Philips. “This is such a worthy cause and we are happy to support their efforts.”
